History of the collection:In 1987 it was decided to transfer the bibliophile works from the Dutch Deposit Library to the Special Collections. They had been placed together from the beginning of the Deposit in 1974 and each year some 300 editions are added because publishers supply copies of each of their editions.
Size: The number of bibliophile editions in the Special Collections amounts to c. 10,000.
Access:The titels can be found in the OPAC, which can also be searched by printer/publisher. The editions of members of the Stichting Drukwerk in de Marge from 1977 onward are described in the Bibliografie van marginale uitgaven. In 1996 the fourth volume (1981-1994) was published, largely based on the collection of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek.

Description of the collection
The collection consists of books published in limited editions, large books of plates, books with original graphic art, and works in special shapes and sizes. Since the foundation of the Dutch Deposit Library in 1974, almost every Dutch publishing company presents one copy of each work that it publishes. That includes publishers of bibliophile works, both big publishers that make the occasional special edition, like the Arbeiderspers did in the 1970s, and publishers specializing in bibliophile editions, such as Bébert. The members of the Stichting Drukwerk in de Marge, who produce their books in the traditional way, in leaden type, are among the regular suppliers to the Deposit Library. As a consequence, many of their editions can be found in the collection, including works by the Avalon Press, Uitgeverij de Exponent, Hein Elferink and De Uitvreter.
Lastly, the collection contains large, special editions such as the Schilderskist van Karel Appel and the spectacular edition that marked the 100th anniversary of the SHV in 1996, SHV? What tomorrow.
