Daughter of a king of Portugal, who wanted to force her into marriage despite the vow of chastity. She begged God to change her in such a way that possible admirers would be deterred. When this succeeded (she grew a beard), her father had her crucified. Shelfmark: SMC 1.
In 2002, the KB in The Hague received a very valuable 15th-century illuminated book of hours that had long been supposed lost. It was once part of the famous collection of the princes of Trivulzio of Milan. The value of the manuscript is estimated at nearly six million euros. As far as known, this is the most expensive private gift ever made to a cultural institution in the Netherlands.
