The first edition from 1992 is presented here as a pdf-file.
No effort has been made to actualize spelling, content or literature. However, in three respects the pdf differs from the 1992 version:
- The photographs of the different sorts of leather (pl. 2 on p. 14) have been replaced with those from the third edition;
- The ‘corrections and additions’ – added on an insert in the second edition- have been integrated in the digitized text.
- A few obvious printing mistakes have been corrected
The 1992 paper version contains two blank pages (p. 6 and p. 10). In order to keep the pagination in line with the original, the blank pages have been retained in the pdf-version.
The indexes of German, English, French and Dutch terms have been incorporated in this version. For optimal accessibility, the digitized version has been made searchable; due to the OCR-process small changes in typography have occurred. Especially the ends of the pages do not come up to all typographical requirements.
After OCR-ing the entire text was corrected by hand. In order to produce a downloadable version, the text and illustrations were scanned separately. The pdf can easily be be downloaded and printed (see The conditions for use).
