General introduction
The KB-fellowship was introduced in 2004. It is awarded to a scholar of repute in the field of the humanities, who wishes to use the extensive collections of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek for his or her research. This fellowship is a joint venture between the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB) - National Library of the Netherlands, and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS). The research facilities provided at both institutes allow the fellow to enjoy the best of both institutions: the KB's unique collections and expertise and NIAS' international and multidisciplinary environment.
The KB introduced the fellowship to highlight the possibilities of her rich collections for research purposes and to promote research in the humanities. The fellow is asked to give a public lecture at the KB in cooperation with Historisch Nieuwsblad (a Dutch history magazine). The lecture is published in Dutch by publisher Bert Bakker and in English by NIAS. In addition the fellow will give a masterclass to young researchers in the field of the humanities in cooperation with the Huizinga Instituut.
