Lecture Eberhart König
On 19 Januari 2012 the German art historian and medievalist Eberhard König concluded his fellowship at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and NIAS with a lecture.

1 september 2011 - In the autumn of 2011, the German art historian and medievalist Eberhard König will be the eighth distinguished scholar to be apppointed fellow of NIAS and KB. During his stay, König will study the KB’s collection of books of hours from an international perspective. Professor Eberhard König, who teaches at the Art History Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin, is an authority in the field of medieval manuscripts. He is especially well-known for his publications on books of hours such as the Bedford Hours and the Tres Belles Heures du Duc de Berry. Recently, he collaborated on an exhibition about Catherine of Cleves in the Valkhof Museum at Nijmegen.
König’s research as KB-fellow will be focused on the medieval manuscripts in the KB’s collection and especially on the impressive collection of books of hours. He will elaborate on his research at the NIAS institute at Wassenaar..
Eberhard König will present his results in a public lecture to be organized in collaboration with the Historisch Nieuwsblad. The lecture, entitled Three countries with three cultures of praying, viewed from the Books of Hours in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in Den Haag, will focus on the importance of the books of hours in the KB. It will take place in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in late January 2012 and published in a Dutch translation by Bert Bakker publishers. The NIAS will publish the original English text.
Cooperation KB en NIAS
After Peter Burke, Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, Robert Darnton, Jonathan Israel, Lisa Jardine, Robin Kinross en Jo Tollebeek, Eberhard König is the eighth distinguished scholar to accept the KB/NIAS fellowship. The fellowship is one way in which the KB shows its role as a research library and highlights it collections and their research opportunities. For the NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences) the fellowship enhances its reputation as a prominent international and interdisciplinary community of top researchers.
Exhibition
A selection of books of hours and other beautiful medieval manuscripts and documents will be exhibited this autumn in the joint exhibition area of the KB and the National Archives.
