Request
With a valid KB-pass you can request publications, except those which are available for consultation only. The lending period is 4 weeks. Books for consultation only, are kept in the reading room for one week. You can request publications up to 15 items. It is not permitted to lend publications to a third party. The special collections department has its own rules regarding access and request procedure.
Collect
Sending a publication to your address by mail costs € 6,- (only within the Netherlands).
Renew, reserve & cancel reservations
If not reserved, borrowed publications are 10 times renewable for four weeks. After this period the publication can only be renewed at the lending desk. Books for consultation - kept for you in the reading room - can be renewed for one week (please call or email the reading room to inform the staff about your renewal). To request, renew, reserve and cancel reservations may be done through the General Catalogue.
You can also reach the KB by telephone, letter, fax or e-mail.
Return
Borrowed publications have to be returned before the last day of the lending period, or returned by mail well packed. Risk of damage and/or loss is for the borrower. At request a receipt can be issued.
Fine & compensation
At expiration of the lending period you will receive a first reminder. After a fortnight you will receive a second reminder. If you have not returned the books by then your pass will be made invalid and you will have to pay € 4,50 per publication; you will be notified of this by a third reminder. After paying the fine and returning the book, the pass will be made valid again. To purchase a non-returned book, the KB has to recover the costs from the borrower (minimum costs € 44,50 per publication).
