What do I need to acquire a KB library pass?
A personal identification document and a recent proof of address. See also the price list.
Can I receive a discount?
The following groups are eligible to receive a discount:
- Friends of the KB 50% discount = € 7.50
- (Open) University students, students of HBO and MBO (Dutch vocational education) 50% discount = € 7.50
- Ooievaarspas 50% discount = € 7.50
- Secondary school pupils = free
- Library Sciences students = free
- Staff of universities and HBO libraries = free
Is the KB library pass valid in other libraries?
No, the KB library pass is only valid in the KB.
Can someone else use my pass?
No, KB library passes are personal and may only be used by the person who has purchased the pass.
How do I find out where a publication is held?
You may search in the collection of the KB and in those of other Dutch and foreign libraries through the Catalogues and Information Services page. You will need an annual library pass to access some resources. You may also request information about publications held in The Netherlands or outside it by phone (070-3140310) or email.

What is my password?
When applying for a library pass you will have registered your own password. This password consists of a minimum of six letters and one number. If you wish to change this password, go to Change Details. By using Have You Forgotten Your Password? you may request a new password by answering a prompt question. If this does not work, contact us.
If you have never requested a password and are using the first three letters of your surname as a password, we advise to you to change this password by going to Change Your Password.
If you have an IBL account your password is the first four letters of your surname. If your name consists of two or three letters, add the letter ‘x’. You may change this password yourself later.
What is the maximum number of publications that I may request?
You may request a maximum of 19 publications at the same time.
How do I renew my books myself?
Click on the link Renew loans and user data on the home page and fill in your details. Then click on the tab 'borrowing'. You may select the publications you wish to renew and then click on 'renew'. Publications that are 'view only' may be renewed repeatedly by a week (do not forget to communicate this renewal to the KB by telephone or email).
How do I reserve a book?
If the ‘request information’ in the KB catalogue books and periodicals lists the remark ‘with borrower’ you may reserve the publication by clicking on the link ‘reserve. Fill in your library pass number and password and click on ‘reserve’. You will receive notification by mail once the book is available.
How do I request books or articles from other libraries?
To request books, photos and photocopies you may fill in one of the order forms on the website. Books will be sent to the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and photocopies and photos will be sent to your home address; scans can also be supplied by email. If you wish to make frequent use of this service you may also opt for an IBL account. To do this you may deposit a minimum of 20 euros in your IBL account with the KB. This will enable you as an individual to make requests in and outside the KB in Picarta: the comprehensive national catalogue.
