The Koninklijke Bibliotheek always outsources its digitisation work. The digital content is delivered in different ways (DVD, hard disks, ftp) and needs to be processed within the KB.

During this process the following steps have to be taken:

  • quality control on the images/full-text;
  • checks on the completeness;
  • checks on the accuracy of file names;
  • checks on the integrity of the links between the different files;
  • conversions to internal standards;
  • copying to different storage systems.

The checks are performed in different ways. In case of large-scale digitization projects checking can no longer be done manually. The Koninklijke Bibliotheek is therefore involved in developing a generic quality control application, which can be used to perform part of all required checks automatically. Also an efficient workflow is being developed in order to be able to copy batches at high-speed from one system to another and store them.

Transformations are done to integrate the files in the data infrastructure of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek. This concerns conversions to Dublin Core, MPEG21 DIDL and standards used for the e-Depot.
