Medieval manuscripts (until c.1550)
The KB has a collection of c.1100 medieval manuscripts, many of which are illuminated. There is an extensive collection of Middle Dutch manuscripts.

Modern manuscripts (from c.1550)
The modern manuscripts collection contains thousands of letters, alba amicorum, literary travel accounts and other ego documents.

Early printed books (until 1801)
The KB possesses some 160,000 early printed books, ranging from incunabula to occasional verse and from songbooks to pamphlets.

Modern printed works (from 1801)
The modern printed works collection comprises, among others, books printed in small runs, illegal editions from World War II, the publisher’s list of the Brusse publishing house and the Koopman collection.

Personal collections
The personal collections comprise (family) archives, literary estates, correspondence and other collections.

Bookbindings and paper history
The KB has an extensive collection of handbound books as well as one of the largest paper historical collections in the world.
