At the end of the eighteenth century, in the days of the Batavian Republic, the newly installed representative body of the Dutch people needed a library. On 17 August 1798 citizen representative Verbeek suggested to use the library of the stadtholder William V, who had fled to England. Exactly two hundred years and one day later a major exhibition opens at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam to celebrate the jubilee of the KB, the National Library of the Netherlands. On this page you will find more information about this exhibition and other activities related to the bicentennial of the KB.
