Bibliopolis, the electronic National History of the Printed Book in the Netherlands, will be presented during the international conference 'The Future History of the Book'.

The theme of this conference will be: the influence of new media on book-historical research and new directions in book history. W. van Drimmelen, director general of the KB, will open the conference, followed by our first keynote speaker, Robert Darnton, and the launch of Bibliopolis.
On the morning of the second day, four papers will be presented (by José de Kruif, Berry Dongelmans, Lisa Kuitert en Adriaan van der Weel) on the Dutch book trade throughout the centuries with particular emphasis on aspects that highlight the distinctiveness of Dutch book production and on trends & gaps in Dutch book-historical research.
The afternoon sessions will be devoted to discussion workshops on topics within the conference theme: Bibliopolis: benefits and shortcomings; Books vs hypermedia; Historical resources of the future; Imaging; Interfacing; and Copyright. Each workshop is organised around three short introductory papers after which the participants are invited to enter a discussion on the workshop topic. The conference will close with the other keynote speaker David McKitterick.
