On 7 November, Bibliopolis, the electronic national history of the printed book in the Netherlands, will become available on the Internet (http://www.kb.nl/bibliopolis). Bibliopolis has been developped by the KB in co-operation with the universities Amsterdam, Leiden, Nijmegen and Utrecht. The system offers integrated access to various information systems on all kinds of aspects of Dutch books in the past and present: books, secondary literature, printers and publishers, images, auctions and collections. Whether one wants to find information on the position of authors in the seventeenth century or on mergers in the twentieth-century publishing world, it can all be found in Bibliopolis.
On the occasion of the launch of Bibliopolis, an international conference will be held on 7 and 8 November in the KB on the influence of new media on books and on book-historical research, entitled The future history of the book. See for the programme the conference website. There are only a limited number of places available on the Friday.
