International launch of the IMPACT Centre of Competence
*During the past 4,5 years a group of 26 European institutions worked on improving access to historical printed text in the IMPACT project, under the lead of the KB National Library of the Netherlands. Today, following the successful conclusion of the project, the international launch of the IMPACT Centre of Competence in Digitisation took place.***
Alicante, 14 December 2012 - At this morning’s press conference the University of Alicante presented the IMPACT Centre of Competence in Digitisation, an initiative supported by the European Commission and managed by the Fundación Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes with the support of the University of Alicante. The KB is one of the founding members of the Centre of Competence, together with the Fundación Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes, the University of Alicante, the British Library, the National Library of France, the Fraunhofer Research Institute, the Institute for Dutch Lexicology, the Poznan Supercomputing Center and Planman Technologies.
The IMPACT Centre of Competence in Digitisation is a pro-active network of experts in digitisation that is built on the research and development of partners from the IMPACT project. It emerges in the digitisation arena as an international community and showcase of tools, services and initiatives. Membership of the IMPACT Centre of Competence is open to all institutions, firms and individuals who are interested in the digitisation field.
