Chris Breedveld is Grand Master of the House of His Majesty the King. He studied general economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and worked for the Netherlands Christian Employers’ Federation and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. He then became deputy director-general at the Netherlands Government Information Service. From 2012 to 2019, Chris Breedveld was director of the King's Office.
Chris Breedveld: "As a National Library, the KB connects people and words and enriches our society with stories, information and knowledge about our society. It is a privilege for me to contribute to this social mission as chair of the Board of Governors. I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the management on how we can enable more Dutch people to research, read and learn, now and in the future."
Board of Governors (ABC)
The ABC meets at least four times a year. In practice, it operates as a Supervisory Board for the KB. The KB is currently exploring whether this role can be enshrined in law. The ABC is responsible for adopting the annual report, budget, policy plan and grant programmes. The management team also sometimes uses the ABC as an advisory board. Wilma van Wezenbeek, the KB Director General: "The KB will face major challenges over the coming years, such as relocation, our contribution to the fight against disinformation, and strengthening citizens' resilience in dealing with information. At the same time, we want to make our collection permanently accessible as a national memory, offline and online, and align with new ways people find and use information. The ABC helps us with this by acting as an advisory board, and the arrival of Chris Breedveld means that we have someone whose experience will help us fulfil this social mission with vision."
