In March, the KB and the Dutch Reading Foundation signed a cooperation agreement. This agreement divides the tasks for the Lezen voor de lijst programme (the approved reading list for secondary education). The KB is currently solely responsible for Lezen voor de lijst. By signing the cooperation agreement, the Dutch Reading Foundation becomes jointly responsible.

New approach
Research shows that Lezen voor de lijst is in need of renewal. Lezen voor de lijst is a didactic approach to teaching fiction and literature in secondary schools. Currently, the website is mainly used as a title list and less for the other purposes of the approach.
Education has changed in recent years. For instance, new Dutch core objectives have been formulated, which call for a different didactic approach to Lezen voor de lijst. A project group with experts was therefore set up to establish a new approach. A focus group with teachers will test the revamped approach and website. The expectation is that schools will be able to start using the new approach in the 2026/2027 school year.
Cooperation agreement
Lezen voor de lijst was developed in 2008 by subject methodologist Theo Witte and has been under the umbrella of the KB since 2017. In 2019, it was split into a list for professionals and a list for students. Tasks will be redistributed as part of the new cooperation agreement. With the new setup, the Dutch Reading Foundation is responsible for the alignment with education and the quality of the didactic approach. The KB is responsible for providing a user-friendly website and making sure that the collection is easily visible and findable.
