KB has again received the CoreTrustSeal. This is the basic level of certification in the field of preservation, which means that the KB meets the requirements of a reliable, trustworthy digital archive. The KB achieved this certification for the first time four years ago.
CoreTrustSeal
CoreTrustSeal is based on the OAIS model’s requirements for trustworthy digital archives. An institution must meet 16 different conditions related to technology, mission, policies and rights. For instance, you must prove that you have a plan for continued access and preservation of your data and metadata. The 16 criteria are assessed anonymously by two other institutions that have already been certified.
Geertrui Verbraak, the KB's Board of directors’ member responsible for Sustainable Access and Heritage: "Once again, our efforts have been rewarded with the CoreTrustSeal. We’re quite proud of this accomplishment, because this is how we ensure that everyone who wants to read, research and discover does so with a reliable, trustworthy digital library collection. Now and in the future."
New system
Since the previous certification, the KB has switched to a new system for the e-depot and a new preservation policy. This required the reassessment of the CoreTrustSeal certification. After a two-year evaluation process, the KB has once again been awarded the Seal. Due to the importance of more digital archives achieving this certification, the Dutch Digital Heritage Network has drawn up a Certification Guide.
