The presentation of a website is largely dependent on the browser being used and the plug-ins required for the presentation of specific aspects of the website (such as Flash, video and audio). How do we ensure that these websites will still be accessible to the user in, say, 50 years’ time? By then we will no longer be using browers and platforms like we are today, and the very concept of the web may have changed completely. And yet, we must ensure that researchers will be able to find their research data in the web archive 50 and more years from now.
The KB is involved in research into these long-term issues of web archiving, whenever possible in collaboration with other institutions across the globe, a.o. within the framework of the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC).
