Anyone working in the field of digital preservation aims to ensure that digital information remains accessible and usable for future generations. The Open Preservation Foundation (OPF) was established in 2010 to share knowledge about digital preservation internationally, for example through websites, working groups and meetings. The OPF also develops and manages tools to help institutions meet digital preservation requirements. The KB is an active member of the OPF.
Why is the KB a member of the OPF?
Heritage organisations from the Netherlands and abroad, such as The British Library and the Nationaal Archief (Dutch National Archives), are affiliated with the OPF. They want to promote the exchange of knowledge on digital preservation. Through its membership with the OPF, the KB contributes to the development of tools and expertise in the field of preservation. As a gold member, the KB has a significant say in decisions and activities.
Why collaborate with the OPF?
Digital preservation plays an important role in the KB’s work. The KB has a large digital collection, which we want to ensure also remains accessible in the future. There is a lot involved in this, such as preservation and inclusivity. Being able to discuss these issues with one another within a network helps everyone progress. By focusing on inclusivity, we learn to view preservation from different perspectives, so that everyone feels welcome.
