After the demise of Adriaan Bogaers in 1870, librarian M.F.A.G. Campbell was given the opportunity to make a wide selection from the impressive library of this linguist and man of letters. With this, the Royal Libray acquired, apart from 48 mostly medieval manuscripts, 3,500 printed works, including a considerable number of early printed books. In 1895 a second bequest followed, donated by Bogaers' son-in-law, T.A. Klinkhamer. This bequest consisted of manuscripts, galleys and revisions of Bogaers' own poetry, of which De togt van Heemskerk naar Gibraltar is still the best known poem. Apart from this, the collection contains philological and linguistic notes by Bogaers, including a number of glosses on Middle Dutch texts and transcripts of Jacob van Maerlant's Der Naturen Bloeme. Furthermore, the 1895 donation also comprised an important collection of works by the poet H.F. Tollens Cz.
