A considerable time before the death of the poet Willem Kloos (1859-1938), an agreement was made to house his library and part of his collection of autographs and documents in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek. When this plan was implemented in 1939, the collection was distributed between the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and that which would later become the Letterkundig Museum: Kloos' manuscripts and private correspondence were placed at the Letterkundig Museum, the Nieuwe-Gids-archive and Kloos' collection of autographs went to the Koninklijke Bibliotheek. Whereas the mainly literary autograph collection (among which a letter by P.B. Shelley, whom Kloos admired deeply) does not show much coherence, the collection of manuscripts by and concerning Jacques Perk (1859-1881; "Wien de goden liefhebben, nemen zij jong tot zich...") is completely the opposite. This collection also contains different versions of Perk's sonnet cycle Mathilde, which also formed the basis of Stuiveling's standard edition of 1941, and various different versions of the poem Iris ("Ik ben geboren uit zonnegloren / en een vochtige zucht van de zee"). But also the realization of the edition of Perk's Gedichten in 1882 by C. Vosmaer and Willem Kloos, with the famous preface by Kloos which is known as "the poetical programme of the Eighties' Movement", is well documented in an extensive correspondence.
