Brill’s Managing Director, Herman Pabbruwe, and Wim van Drimmelen, Director General of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, the National Library of the Netherlands, have signed an agreement about the long term preservation of all electronic publications of Brill Academic Publishers.
On the basis of this collaboration The Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB) will receive digital copies of all of Brill’s E-journals, E-books and reference works to store these in its e-Depot. The KB commits itself to ongoing investments and research into long term preservation and access to the publications in the e-Depot, including all related bibliographic data and technical specifications.
It is expected that Brill will ship approx. 5,000 articles from its 120 journals and about 400 monographs and reference works on an annual basis. On top of that the entire back files of all journals will be added, amounting to an estimated 100,000 articles. Also some 2,000 books which were previously published in print, will be made available in digital form and will become part of the e-Depot.
The KB will secure on-going access to all stored publications to its on-site patrons and users. The KB is a long established and highly regarded institution of great quality and reliability and an international authority in the area of digital repositories. The KB will serve as a guarantee and last resort to all subscribers to Brill’s databases regardless future changes in rendition technology on a world-wide basis.
