On 26 August, the Dutch public libraries launched the 'Discover what you can do' campaign. Through this ad campaign, they aim to show that there is a lot more you can do at the library than  borrow books. Libraries, POIs (provincial support institutions), the VOB (Dutch Public Library Association) and the KB all worked together on the campaign.

There are almost 1,300 libraries in the Netherlands, but many people have an outdated idea of what is on offer there. Research by agency Annalect shows that 70 per cent of respondents still see the library as a place where you can mainly read, study and use the computer.

The campaign aims to update this image. For example, a child comes along and scares his father with a dinosaur skull made using the library's 3D printers. For the ads, users and services were selected that make the extent of the library's offering clear. It targets non-members as well as members.

Libraries have been active in social and educational fields for many years. You can go there for courses, help with languages and computers, questions about government websites, help with homework, 3D printing, workshops and cultural gatherings. The aim of the campaign is to make it clear that there is something for everyone at the library. It can be seen on TV, online and on social media until the end of September.
