From today, the KB is officially a part of the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) Consortium, a collaborative effort to increase the accessibility of digital heritage. Management team member Geertrui Verbraak signed a Memorandum of Understanding for this purpose.

The IIIF standard

The IIIF standard (pronounced ‘triple-eye-eff’) makes it easier to manage and share digital images and associated metadata. This ensures the wider accessibility of digital heritage. The Dutch Digital Heritage Network encourages the use of open standards such as IIIF to make digital heritage easier to find and use.

Geertrui Verbraak, management team member Sustainable Access: "By joining the IIIF Consortium, we highlight the value of the IIIF standard and strengthen the IIIF community. The KB wants to make its visual material available through IIIF on its own website and on platforms such as Europeana and ecodices.nl. This will create stories about collections that span organisational boundaries."

Global community

By joining the IIIF Consortium, the KB becomes part of a global community of users and developers. This collaboration offers Dutch heritage organisations the opportunity to help think about the future of this standard and opens up opportunities to exchange knowledge and expertise internationally and share Dutch wishes and insights.
